Members should check their email for link to register!
This workshop is now open to the public, with just a couple of seats available. Please click here for the Workshop Registration Form which includes info for payment. The cost for nonmembers is $250 for the 2-day workshop. ONE Spot is open as of 6/10/25!
In this workshop, we'll explore extruding and slab techniques for making a wide range of functional stoneware. Our approach will be mindful of letting these processes show in the work; if we keep out of clay’s way, it can reveal its essence, and the results will be fresh and lively. We’ll use unconventional forming methods and unusual approaches to surface decoration, including stencils, stretched slabs, and slip inlay. Myths will be busted and secrets revealed.
The workshop will be held 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday in South Berwick, Maine (with breaks for lunch).
This two-day intensive workshop is all about building confidence in your slab-built pottery practice. Through hands-on demos and guided making sessions, we’ll explore how to add surface interest using handmade texture stamps, how to alter and inflate slab forms to transform volume, and how to generate repeatable designs by turning clay sketches into templates.
Expect to get messy, experiment freely, and work with intention. You’ll leave with a collection of personal templates, several three-dimensional clay sketches, and the skills to continue designing, repeating, and refining your slab-built forms back in your own studio.
Bring an open mind, a dose of patience, and a sense of curiosity!
